Classroom of the Future Foundation Honors Escondido Union School District for Innovation

Classroom of the Future FoundationSAN DIEGO, CA -- Congratulations to Escondido Union School District’s Bear Valley Middle School for winning the Classroom of the Future Foundation's 2014 Innovate Award!

The award recognized the district’s Robotics program, which focuses on real-word application of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) principles. The award was presented to the district at a ceremony on May 21 by Clayton Hoyle, Co-Founder of EDmin, Inc., which sponsored the award.

The Robotics program is an elective class where students develop projects collaboratively. Student groups experience learning “beyond the classroom” as the teacher connects them with resources, experts online and mentors from the community. In one project, students designed and built a drone to fly into earthquake-damaged buildings to detect gas leaks.

It was the Foundation's 11th annual awards ceremony dinner, honoring eight winners of the 2014 Innovation in Education Awards. The Escondido Union School District will receive a $5,000 cash award from EDmin.

"It was great to see the Foundation honor teachers for creating a collaborative experience on projects that make a difference in the lives of students and others," Hoyle said. "We also want to commend Escondido Union School District for sharing the program with educators from California and other states, so they can develop similar programs."

“Each year the foundation recognizes classroom leaders and programs that inspire students to achieve through the development of innovative learning programs,” said Bruce Braciszewski, Ph.D., executive director, Classroom of the Future Foundation. “This year’s honorees demonstrate a significant impact on learning in the region and are substantially improving student achievement.”
